Gallery: Endemic Birds of Tasmania (2018 - continuing)
Tasmania is home to 12 species of birds that are found only on this island state (which does include more small islands, other than the main island). These are Tasmanian Nativehen, Green Rosella, Black-headed Honeyeater, Strong-billed Honeyeater, Yellow-throated Honeyeater, Yellow Wattlebird, Dusky Robin, Black Currawong, Forty-spotted Pardalote, Tasmanian Scrubwren, Scrubtit, and Tasmanian Thornbill.
Additionally, there are 3 species that are known to breed only in Tasmania but migrate out of the state for the winter. These are the Swift Parrot, Orange-bellied Parrot, and Tasmanian Boobook. In case of the latter, only some cross the Bass Strait to Victoria for the winter but most stay back in Tasmania. The Boobook also happens to be the only species I do not have a decent photograph of, and so it is not a part of this gallery for now.
This gallery showcases these 14 species. Not necessarily the best photos I have taken of them, but my favourite photos of them (1 per species) - usually showcasing either the bird or the habitat/behaviour, and ideally - a bit of both :-)
