Featured: Ghost Fungi omphalotus nidiformis from Tasmania, Australia
The Ghost Fungi is a species of bioluminescent fungi which is widespread across much of coastal Australia. It is a surreal phenomena - one that is not commonly encountered and can often prove to be fleeting as these fungi only “glow” for short periods in a year. But when you do encounter one of these at night, it is a sight to behold! Here are a few photographs of the fungi we found near our house in 2020.
While the glow on the camera appears to be green, the colour in its natural surrounding as seen by the naked eye is more of a whitish-blue. I’ve also added a couple of photographs at the end to try and simulate what we actually see. Blog post about the phenomena here.

Takayna, Australia’s largest temperate rainforest and containing some of the world’s wildest coastal landscapes, is home to some remarkably unique flora and fauna; and has been home to the Aboriginal people for over 35,000 years. Some images here, from the small settlement of Corinna, showcase the beautiful rainforest of the area. The region needs protection and you can help - check out https://bobbrown.org.au/campaigns/takayna/
